Clive Stephenson - Obituary

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden death of Clive Stephenson, our National Vice Chair.

Clive worked for Sheffield City Council for over40 years and was their Taxi Licensing Expert.in his role as Policy and Strategy Officer. He was a great supporter of NALEO, serving as both National Chair and Vice Chair. He will be fondly remembered for his jovial humour, in particular when entertaining at the NALEO training courses in Daventry. whether in the bar or training room. Respected for his knowledge, he often represented NALEO in discussions and meetings with the Department for Transport relating to Hackney Carriage and Private Hire matters. Clive met with both national and local taxi trade bodies and respected by all for his common sense approach.

Clive was fond of cooking, American football and Sheffield United although not necessarily in that order and was a founder member of the of the Sheffield Giants American Football Club.

A pragmatic and thoughtful Yorkshireman. Clive understood the taxi trade, didn’t always agree with them, but behind the scenes he went the extra mile to ensure that the mystical blend of politics, legislation and understanding of the trade reached a solution.

We never heard a bad word about him, which is quite an achievement for a man in his position but heard lots of good things.

Enough about the work stuff, what a lovely person, with a level of patience many would be envious of. All of us at NALEO are tremendously shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of Clive - a lovely man and he will be fondly remembered for a very long time.

Clive was a valued colleague who worked tirelessly to improve things for others and his commitment to making the world a better place was inspirational. He was a genuine, modest man with a fabulous sense of humour. Clive will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
